Chance To Dream, aka Dreamer Black Tenn Walker Mare

Picture
Dreamer was a very very special rescue. She was rescued from camalot August 27,2010 in the name of my brother David,16 who was killed by a drunk driver on my birthday August  27. We were hoping she not only would be rescued but would also be my sons horse. She is just a little too much for a complete beginner right now. She is very sweet and was ridden everywhere. She has been in the mountains. She stands to be groomed, fly sprayed, bathed ect. Loads like a dream. no vices current on all shots and coggins. She had 4 shoes when we rescued her but has since been barefoot. She has gained alot of weight since we got her and is jet black with one white front leg and a touch of white on the face. Thick long mane and tail. She really is a dream. We dont want to let her go but we rescued her  for her to have that perfect life and now I want to find that. She is very special to me and I want the best for her. We have decieded to keep her. too close to the heart.

Picture
Lil Bit is also a new rescue that we decide to keep as our own.Isn't he just the cutest little thing??

Lady      Aged Bay mare.// Now permanent resident of Acres of Hope Farm

Picture
Once apon a time, this loyal lesson mare awoke to find she was no longer in her warm stable, nestled in by her freinds. Instead to her shock,  she had been dumped at an auction. A path that would lead her to be purchased by an kill buyer awaiting to be sent for slaughter. This mare was put in with a herd of others that had such a fate. Along came the rescues who work so hard to save these special equines. This lucky day, this mare was saved and brought to one final grazing ground. She has had a tough road and is not sure of us yet so we will take our time and let her take in all that has happened to this old gal. We are working on names for her  now, feel free to give any suggestions for her. She will be in QT for the next month. She was rescued with the little gaited pony above and the Chestnut QH below. This picture and the next one is of Lady as she arrived from the kill pen.

Update April 9    As you can see she was named by the kids, as Lady. Lady is starting to come out of her shell and after her second bath she is looking even prettier!!!

Update April 14

Ok this mare I think is a Missorri Fox Trotter. She moves out gaited and has the unusual coloring of an roan over a bay/black coat very diff. She is very nice and coming along well. She has lots of weight to put on but has made great progress since turned out in lush fields!

Update June 8th

Lady is still gaining weight. She will be tried out under saddle once we feel she is in prime condition. No rush, we have many adventures ahead. Right now she enjoys her daily grooming by the kids and her mane looks so pretty braided- yes she gets daily braiding!!!

Update Jan 2011

Lady has gained all her weight and is very healthy. She took a very long time to gain so we still have not ridden her. We are all very excited to get on her now that she is all fat and sassy. Lady will live out her days here.

Picture
Lady oh so tranked after a ride from the kill pen to a safe home.

Picture

She has gorgeous trot and is super collected with minimal contact. Right now her job is to be a trail horse but we'll hopefully see her doing more then that. She loves to eat and will call for you at the time od feeding impatiently every second until you give her food with a cute nickers and hungry eyes. She is slowly but surely gaining weight.
We will post more fun pictures of her...

Jake     9 yr Chestnut QH Geld

Picture
This sweet guy was rescued from the kill buyer in NJ. This guy was show sheened and had a clipped bridle path, well groomed. Surely the owner who took him to auction would not have put such time into this guy had she known he was going to be purchased for slaughter. That is the fate of so many of these horses and ponies recieve. Jake is a wonderful boy! He has a great build and a very kind eye. This guy was someones western horse. He stands to be groomed and bathed. He has great manners and loves to give kisses.

This boy has been adopted by one of our girls and will live out his days here at Acres of Hope Farm

From His new owner,

Hi There! Here is an update on "Journey" (Kafwain).
He is awesome!! We have totally fallen in love with each other. If I didn't have all of his information I would never think he was a TB from the track. The weeping eye was actually an injury that ulcerated so I had a few weeks of meds and care and the vet advised not to start working him until it was healed. My vet LOVES him!! He has  been an absolute dream to work around - loves his grooming time. He doesn't care much for other horses - actually he is a bully to most of them. We moved him to a field with several so he could find his place somewhere in the middle and he is doing fine. He would much rather just live with me somewhere!!
I just started him under saddle and he is progressing fast. I've only been on him three times and he improves greatly with each ride. I can't thank you enough for the opportunity to have him in my life.  The funny thing is that his personality is very similar to my late buddy Bingo when he was four!
Hopefully, by Spring I can bring him down to your place for a ride.
I have attached a picture of him in his cross-ties. My camera phone isn't the greatest so I will get better pics soon.
 Thank you again!

UPDATE

11-06-2010 Update
Hi Hope-
Just an update - Journey is absolutely a "people" horse! He loves to be loved  and even when he is acting like a track horse he is still just a sweetheart.  By track horse I mean the
little crazies like  - "Mommy give me my cookie now! and OMG don't curry me too much there, it makes me twitchy."  None of this is malicious, he's just a big baby!  I can
feel comfortable doing anything with him.  I would lay in a sleeping bag in the stall with him if I had too - he loves me that much.  As far as riding, he is coming along beautifully.
I have been working him on simple bending and leg yields at the walk/trot and some simple trotting poles.  The vet says the leg with the scar is fine with just alot of scar tissue.
This may mean that he doesn't have full flexibility in his ankle but so far it doesn't interfere with anything.  She said it would not ever be an issue outside of racing - he is very sound. After losing my buddy Bingo of 27 years, and thinking I was not ever going to get back into owning another horse, I am truly grateful that I found Acres of Hope and Kafwain's Journey.
Bing would have wanted it that way!!
I have attached a picture of him.
I will keep you up to date.

03-02-2011 Update
Hello again!
Here is an update. I love this horse!! He finally found his place in a pasture with mostly draft horses.  He is so kind and loving. Anything peppermint  gets his attention! When he sees me he will just about barrell me over because he knows there are peppermint twists in my pocket! These must have been "track treats" in his racing life. I still can't thank you enough for being the organization that you are that brought this horse into my life!

As always, I will keep you posted!

What an awsome team they have made. look how happy this guy is. He is now heading off to learn dressage.

Update 03-18-11

Picture
Hi Hope:  I've posted most of these pictures on Facebook, but I thought you might like them for the "Past Rescues" section of your website.

Willie is doing wonderfully in his new home.  He has gradually been turned out with the other two equine residents at his new barn, a Rocky Mountain Horse and Shetland Pony.  Willie is low man on the totem pole, but he doesn't seem to mind.  After the jockeying for position (pardon the pun), all the horses returned to eating their hay and grain in peace and quiet.  I've tapped myself out financially this month with his move, new shoes, and a more expensive boarding arrangement, but next month should be better.  That is when we plan to begin once a week dressage lessons with Donna Toole at her training barn next door.

I continue to be incredibly grateful to the two of you for all that you do, and for making it possible for Willie and me to become a team.  I will never sell him.  We are going to grow old together, and I look forward to all of our adventures in the years to come.  Look for us at the Grand Prix level (hahahahahaha!)

It would be lovely to adopt/foster/buy another horse to keep at Acres of Hope, so that I can ride there.  I'm open to ideas.  I have a lot of love to give and, with the obvious limitations of a pastor's salary and schedule, would like to share what I can to provide help for unwanted equines who need a Mama.  Please think/pray about how I can best serve your mission.  I miss you very much!

Love and gratitude, Amy

Tina Mite aka   Mika  Black mare 3 yr old, very classy 15.2

Picture
Mika has just shipped to us from the track about a month and a half ago. This mare is just to sweet and calm to be a race horse, such a looker and real flashy. She has a nice head set and what a conformation to go with that personalty. This mare is well bred and will go far in the ring. She is very classy, all black. What can I say she is nice!!!!! Mika is loved by all the kids and can be groomed by our 6 yr olds. She is very CALM. Take a look at this mare, her adoption fee will go up once we start retraining her. Get her now and train her how you like. $1,500 Mika looks brown in these pics but she is really pretty in person. this pic does her no justice at all. She looks black and very shiney in person.

Mika has been adopted and is very much spoiled! Her new mommy will be getting her ready for her upcoming show season. I cant wait to see these guys take the class!!!!!!! I will get her new pics up soon that her new mommy has sent me.

Update

Picture
 From Mikah's new mommy,
I have two horses, one that is absolutely lazy but most wonderful
personality in the world. Casper is also my first horse, but Casper does not
like anything but goof around and go on the trail. Rogue is my yearling
stallion. I wanted to learn with him how is it to raise a baby, and he will
be my star but cant do any riding yet. So that leaves me with no horse built
to jump and do dressage. I have been looking for a year now, always passing
on the good deals or just couldn't afford some that I liked. It sounds
probably crazy but I think I was supposed to wait and I strongly belive that
things happen for a reason. I did not think I would end up with fresh off
track TB, yes I wanted a TB but was looking for one that already knows
jumping etc. I saw Micah online and got the same feeling I got when I met
Casper. She seemed perfect for me and almost good to be true kind of deal. I
called Hope really early in the morning pouring my heart out to her and she
was incredibly nice. I am very emotional person when it comes to horses and
I am not excellent rider or trainer and I am more what you would consider
advanced beginner, and in past people would look at me like I should be
doing something else and probably though I was weird but not Hope. I have
not met such a nice person in the horse world... Well probably never. She
told me everything with such an honesty that I flew there first time I could
to see my potential new horse. In my heart she was already mine, but there
was only one thing left. If Micah and I would click. From some reason I get
kind of cold and be weary feel around most of horses, and when I saw Micah
just three months off the track thoroughbred and felt 100% comfortable
around her I knew that's it, that she is the one. My new baby that needed
forever home. Micah was just like Hope had described her to me to the teeth.
Today Micah has been with me for one month now, gaining weight and learning
new things everytime I go see her. She is incredibly intelligent with very
healthy apetite ( she could eat a horse haha) and very sound body. I am so
grateful to Hope for letting me adopt her, and I have set my heart to rescue
more horses in the future as they are just as good ( if not better) then any
other horse. Our story has just began and we will be going to many shows
together and I know we will be in the winner's circle. Everybody stares at
her when she moves, cause she looks like she is about fly off the ground
with such a grace and amazing gaits.
Thank you Acres of Hope Farm and thank you Hope!

 APRIL SURPRISE

Picture
April Surprise was born here on the farm. Her dam(mother) is an black and white mini mare. Her sire(father) is an dapple grey 34 inch mini. April is all white with a white spot on her head and a white and pink snip. She is so cute and great with kids and dogs too. She will make a great pony for the kids or a nice pet.She has already been to two pony parties and has trailered twice. She has had her feet done and been bathed. April has also hit the trails many times with mommy on our pony rides. She is used to the bikes and all walks of life on the trail. To a great, and I mean great home. She is our little one, she does not have to go. I am getting very busy with the rescue and if you are the perfect person, just maybe she will be yours!  .$ 500

SHE HAS BEEN ADOPTED, THANK YOU TO THE CASH FAMILY. THEY ADOPTED BOTH THESE SWEET LITTLES ONES TOGETHER!!!!!!

She was said to have a biting problem and not enjoy being ridden. Cracker has been our sons pony since we rescued her and she fell in love with him. She is his first pony. To this day she has never bitten or refused a pony ride.

Hudini Dark Dapple Grey 34 inch Mini Stallion 5 1/2 yr

Hudini. His name says it all. He has a very neat coloring to him. Hudini looks like a dark Pal with dapples and a cream mane  and tail. His under coat is light though, thus making him an dapple grey. You cant see it but he has a star under there. He has the wildest mane. Hudini looks and moves just like a horse. He tucks his head and all. We rescued him and 2 other minis from a really bad situation. We almost lost him right after we brought him home. The shock of food was too much for the little guy.He is fat now!! My twin 5 yr olds have sat on him.Soon he will be riding. Hudini has weight  and skin issues and will remain on the farm.

Sundance

Sundance was a rescue off the track. When he came he was just a two year old who couldny cut it as a race horse. Sundance was in great condition, just needed a new home. We started sundances training and well, one of my riders(we will call her MOM,) fell in love with him. Sundance has now been adopted. We hope these two enjoy many rides together.

Update from her new owner Oct 19th:

Good morning Hope!

I was just checking out your website and have an update on the TB colt,
Light Reines, I adopted from you back in February. He has been
registered with the Jockey Club as "Light Terms".

'Lil Man' as we call him now, is doing wonderful! He's growing into such
a big boy! Everyone at my farm has fallen in love with him! He's become
the adoptive big brother to the babies. So laid back, comes to the fence
when I show up, and just an all around good boy!  I will send more (and
better) photos tomorrow when I get some uploaded from my camera.

The first photo is his first bath... he wasn't quite sure what to make
of the water, but boy did he clean up nicely! The second one was a few
days after we brought him to Frederick... I just thought is was a nice
photo!

Keep in touch!

Update
Good morning!

Lil Man is getting big! He's completed his training, stands at cross
ties with no problem, and is doing really well with a light rider on his
back! At times the trainers ask if he really is a thoroughbred he's so
well behaved!!  I haven't been able to get out to the barn lately, but I
have plans to go tomorrow.  I'll be sure to bring my camera and take
some photos for you.

Everything else is going well.  How is the farm? I've been following the
horses you have on your acresofhopefarm.net website. If I had the means
I'd adopt Willie! If I come across any tack or items you all could use
I'll let you know!

Take care and keep in touch!
Teresa

Update

Picture
Hi Hope! Here is a recent photo of him.  He is getting quite big! The girls at the farm love him to pieces! I'm going out to see him on Wednesday, so I will see if I can get a better photo of him.

Hope things are well at the farm! I'll have to see about coming back by sometime, and maybe bring Lil Man (when he's ride-able) for a trail ride!

GG  Grey TB Mare

Picture
GG,  a big dark grey girl. Boy can she move. This girl came to us because the owners wanted to make sure she had the right home and time to recover from track life. This mare is very well bred. GG was adopted by Kim Charlton of W Va.These two are working on the show season.

GG Update

Picture
 Hi Hope~

Update on GG. I took GG to a couple of clinics this summer and she did
great- she quickly became the favorite and improved greatly with the small
amount of work I did with her.  At the end of the clinic we did a trail
ride and she did awesome! We were put at the back of the group and even
went away from the group several times without any issues.  She's been so
great for me, I can work her every day or I can work her once a month and
she's always the same.  She's also very forgiving to this out of shape
rider, of which I'm certain I must flop around on her with my jello legs.

I hope all is well at your farm, I'll keep you posted on GG

Many thanks to you and Lisa for such a wonderful mare:)

Kim

P.S. If her breeder ever has a sister or brother to GG for sale, I'd love
to know.

Hunt For Passion  aka  Hunter   Bay 9yr TB Geld.

Picture
Hunter was my very first rescue here at our Farm. He came to us because I recieved a call 5 days before Christmas asking if I could take this big TB geld. I said I would see if I could find him a home and was told that they needed to know now as he was schedule to be put down in the morning. (See Hunter had a knee chip which is not a big deal but requires time off and a rest.) I of course said yes I would take him, little did I know the adventure this guy would take me on. Hunter came with exrays of his leg taken the race before the last, but it seemed he recieved another chip in the last race. Hunter would have many ups and many more downs in the next year. He ended up so lame that I felt I had done wrong by this guy, should i have just let him be put down? was I helping him or making his pain worse. Hunters knee grew large and he lost alot of weight, i had him on everything known to man nomatter the cost. I was saving him. Well finally I decieded he was just to bad, that i wasnt getting anywhere and he was still  lame. I scheduled to have my vet out one last time to tell me i could do no more for this guy. He came and said that it was time. I scheduled the appt and well the morning of the appt I went out to feed and took Hunter his grain and he came running up on all 4's - Not Lame! He even jumped the platform going into the barn. Well I was shocked and followed him around and he just kept running around like nothing was wrong. I called my vet and said well he is not lame and canceled. Well about a month after that he was running around(mind you he had an adoptive home ready to pick him up) and took a wipe out! Fell right on his side, dont you know when he got up, Lame. Well that set the pace for the next 7 months. But i new we would get through it. We did and I had him off all meds. He just had a lump on his knee. A friend called and needed a babysitter, so hunter was adopted out as a buddy for her older horse. Hunter lived there for the last 4 years till her barn no longer had room for him and he came back.Boy did he look great when he came back!! You would never know what he had been through. Racing all over the fields.Hunter spent the summer mowing a friends fields, then came his final home. I recieved a call from Jackie. She was looking for that special horse to have and care for. This would be her first horse. Jackie fell in love with Hunter at first sight.I know these two will share many more adventures together.Jackie also adopted Romeo, one of our mini's as a buddy for Hunter. Pictures from my last visit to thier ranch will get posted soon.(yes he is just 15 min away from me ;  )  )

Romeo  Palomini Mini

Picture
Romeo was one of our hardest rescues. He was not bad enough for SPCA to seize when the horses were removed but his conditions where so bad. They were standing in 12 inches of urine. They had eaten all the wood that was between them. We convinced the owners to sell each one to us to get them out of there.(We never paid so much for sick, half dead, foundered horses before)Romeo was one of the three we brought home. The little daughter, Juliet, was purchased by my friend, Lisa( who helped me rescue these guys)Hudini, her son still resides with us. Romeo was adopted by Jackie and lives the life of luxery. He and Hunter are spoiled, and they deserve every treat! I will get pics up as soon as I can from our last visit to thier ranch..

UPDATE ~ ON   HUNTER  AND  ROMEO

Hunter and Romeo have brought so much joy into my life!  The fact that they are both rescues makes me love them even more...  Like Hope said the first time I saw Hunter it was love at first site.  He and Romeo love getting hugs, kisses and of course treats.

We are looking forward to many many years with them both.  Hope and her mom are the most caring people I have ever met!! They work very hard to make sure their horses are placed in the best loving homes.

Thanks again Hope.

Jackie

Sara's Hope

Picture
We just rescued a little Heflinger mix mare from new holland. She was very thin and her feet were really bad. She is a real sweet heart. We have had her about 3 months now and boy has she changed. She will stay on as one of our pony horses to be spoiled by the kids. So next time you stop by, say high to our new guest! I want to thank our black smith Chris Diehl, without having such a great blacksmith I would not be able to rescue some of these guys with such bad hoof problems. Chris was able to fix her feet so she could walk on her heels instead of over her toes. Her heel and frog had grown up backwards into her hair on her leg, her hoofs flared out to the side about 2 inches too far on the outside.Everyone said I would not be able to save her, but we did and she is living proof!! We will get pictures on to show her when we got her and during her 1st trim and now.

Update 8/09 Sara has come a long way. she has an even longer way to go. we have worked very hard to help her and she is gaining weight and filling out nicely. Sara has had a couple trims now, though they are hard on her. She has to get used to having her heels down and her tendons and muscles have to stretch to handle this new angle. She is sore after each trim but soon she will have the correct angle and will be able to have a good hoof to stand on. Along the way she will enjoy the attention she gets from all visiters and the daily mane braiding that has become part of her daily care.

The picture below is of Sara after 3 months of feeding. She has gained alot of weight, she will still need to gain more weight. Her front hooves will need regular trimming. She is doing great though. She loves the kids and wants to be the center of the attention.. This girl is ready for her new adoptive family. $ 500.

Update:  Sara's Hope has been adopted and has a new best friend!!!
